Packaging for electronics

4 min readSector guide

Short answer

Electronics need two protections at once: physical cushioning against shock, and electrostatic protection for anything with exposed circuitry. Use anti-static or shielding bags next to the product, foam or die cut fitments to immobilise it, and desiccant where moisture is a risk.

ESD materials in order of protection

MaterialProtects againstTypical use
Anti-static (pink) bagStatic generation from the bag itselfCables, housings, non-sensitive parts
Static dissipativeControlled dischargeAssemblies handled at the bench
Metallised shielding bagExternal static fieldsBare boards and sensitive components
Anti-static bubble and foamShock plus staticCushioning layer around the bag

Moisture and long storage

For sea freight or long storage, add desiccant sachets sized to the enclosed volume and use a moisture barrier bag. Corrugated absorbs humidity, so board strength also falls in damp conditions, which matters for stacked pallets.

Retail-ready consumer devices

For consumer products the pack is part of the product. A die cut 0427 with a printed sleeve and a fitted corrugated insert gives an unboxing experience without moving to expensive rigid boxes, and it recycles kerbside.

Frequently asked questions

Do you supply ESD packaging?
Yes, anti-static bags, shielding bags, anti-static bubble and foam are all available.
Can you make fitted inserts for devices?
Yes, we make die cut corrugated fitments in-house and supply foam profiles.
Do you supply desiccant?
Yes, in sizes matched to the enclosed volume of your pack.

Think your packaging is bigger than it needs to be?

Send us your product dimensions and we’ll come back with a right-sized option. There is no minimum on stock lines, and bespoke corrugated runs can start from as little as one, but we will advise the most cost efficient run rate depending on size and board grade.
