What is right for your needs
These are the figures we work to day to day. They're a guide rather than a guarantee, as weight, density and how far the box travels all play a part. If you're unsure, put your best guess in the form and we'll correct it for you.
Up to around 15kg
Best for UK courier and short-distance shipping
Everyday shipping boxes, mailers and retail packs. Fine for one or two handling stages and light stacking on a pallet.
Around 15kg to 25kg
UK pallet networks and repeat handling
A step up in liner strength while keeping the slim board profile, so you don't lose storage space or bump up your box height.
Around 25kg to 40kg
Long-distance, multi-drop and export
Our go-to for heavy, dense or fragile goods, and anything stacked high on a pallet or handled several times in transit.
40kg and above
Sea freight, machinery and near-crate protection
For engineering parts, machinery and one-off heavy items where a timber crate would normally be the alternative.
Paper weights, flute type and the number of walls can all be varied, so similar performance can be reached with different board grades. These are the guideline figures the industry works to (K/T means kraft liner over test liner).
| Flute | Grade | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| B or E | 125 K/T | 4kg to 6kg |
| B or E | 150 K/T | 8kg to 12kg |
| B or E | 200 K/T | 12kg to 17kg |
| B or E | 200 K / 300 T | 17kg to 25kg |
| B or E | 300 K/T | 25kg to 35kg |
| BC or EB | 125 K/T | 10kg to 15kg |
| BC or EB | 150 K/T | 15kg to 25kg |
| BC or EB | 200 K/T | 25kg to 35kg |
| BC or EB | 200 K / 300 T | 35kg to 40kg |
| BC or EB | 300 K/T | 40kg to 45kg |
Weight ranges are indicative only. Final board specification depends upon box dimensions, product weight, distribution conditions, stacking requirements and environmental conditions.
How the review works
Tell us what you send out, roughly how much of it, and what is going wrong, damages, storage, cost, labour or waste. Five minutes on the phone is usually enough for us to know what to look at.
One of our team comes to you. We look at your packing bench, the products, how they are stored and how they leave the building. We take dimensions and photos so nothing gets guessed at.
You get a plain-English summary: where you are over-packing, where a made-to-fit box would beat a stock size, which materials could be swapped for recyclable alternatives, and where consolidating suppliers saves money.
We produce samples of the recommended pack in-house and get them to you. Pack your real product, ship it, drop it, stack it. Feedback goes straight back into the spec until it is right.
Once the sample is signed off we quote it properly, one box or a full lorry load. We can hold stock and call it off to your schedule so you are not tying up your own space.
What we look at
Straight answers
Yes. The visit, the review and the samples are free, with no cost and no obligation.
The visit is usually under an hour. Samples of a made-to-fit box are typically ready within a few working days as we manufacture on site in Letchworth.
No. Most reviews end with two or three practical changes, not a rebuild. Take the ones that make sense to you.
No. We serve start-ups sending fifty boxes a month and manufacturers taking full lorry loads, and we are family run and independently owned so you deal with people who decide things.
Case study
What a review can lead to: for Lifeplus Europe we moved them off plastic void fill onto PaperWave® paper air cushions, installed the machinery and hoppers, and cut their packing time and recycling complexity.
