Meat boxes and butcher boxes

Meat boxes and butcher cardboard boxes

Butchers, farm shops, game dealers and meat processors need a box that survives a cold, wet, high-humidity chain and still looks worth the money on the doorstep. We are a family run, independently owned corrugated box manufacturer making meat boxes, butcher carry boxes and turkey boxes to measure in Letchworth Garden City, supplied from BRCGS Storage & Distribution certificated storage graded AA+.

Made for the cut, not the catalogue

Carry boxes, meat box outers and poultry boxes cut to your own sizes on our box-making machines in Letchworth Garden City.

Formats we make

Butcher box formats

  • Plain brown kraft corrugated gable-top butcher carry box with a cut-out carry handle and interlocking top flaps

    Carry-handle gable boxes

One-piece gable-top box with a cut-out handle for counter orders, click-and-collect and farm shop sales. Folds flat, assembles in seconds, no tape needed on the top.

  • Brown kraft corrugated meat box printed in dark green with livestock silhouettes and a butcher badge, insulated liner visible under the lid

    Printed meat box outers

Double wall outers printed with your butchery branding and handling marks, sized for an insulated liner, a leak-proof bag and coolant for courier delivery.

  • All-white corrugated gable-top turkey box with a cut-out handle, printed in dark green with a line-drawn turkey

    Turkey and poultry boxes

Seasonal carry boxes made to the bird weight you sell, in kraft or white top liner, printed for Christmas poultry and game.

Print shown is illustrative. Every box is made to your own dimensions and your own artwork, so a pack can be built around the cut, the liner and the courier rather than the other way round. Our bespoke packaging page explains how made to measure boxes are produced.

Getting the pack right

Specifying a meat box

Start with the journey, not the box. A counter order carried to a car needs a handle and a clean face. A courier meat box needs an insulated liner, a leak-proof bag, room for coolant and a board grade that still stacks after a night in a damp cage.

Standard board softens in chilled and high-humidity conditions, which is where stacking strength quietly disappears and pallets slump. For chilled and frozen despatch we normally move to BC double wall with moisture-resistant liners rather than pushing single wall past what it can hold.

Then decide how much of the box is doing your marketing. Kraft with one or two colour print is the most economical for repeat lines; white top liner gives stronger contrast where the box is part of the brand experience on the doorstep.

Board weights and performance vary between mills and between runs, so we confirm the grade against your actual pack weight and journey before you commit to a run, and make a sample first.

Certification matters as much as the board. Our stock is held in BRCGS Storage & Distribution certificated premises at grade AA+ and FSC certified board is available under licence C214479, so the paperwork lands in your audit file rather than being chased each year. Full detail is on our accreditations page.

Seasonal peaks are handled through stock holding and call-off, and the wider picture for food producers is on our food and meat outer packaging page. Tape, film, strapping and liners are all in our product range.

Frequently asked questions

What cardboard box do butchers use for meat deliveries?
Most butchers use one of two formats. For counter and click-and-collect orders, a gable-top carry box with a cut-out handle keeps the order upright and easy to hand over. For courier and home delivery, a double wall outer lined with an insulated liner and a leak-proof bag holds temperature through the journey and keeps any moisture inside the pack. We make both to your own sizes rather than making you fit stock dimensions.
Can meat boxes be printed with our butchery branding?
Yes. Boxes can be printed with your name, logo, cuts, handling marks and storage instructions. One and two colour flexo print on kraft is the most cost-effective for repeat lines, and white top liner is available where you want stronger contrast for retail presentation.
Do the boxes hold temperature for home delivery?
The box is the structure; the temperature is held by what goes inside it. We supply the outer along with insulated liners, foil-faced liners, leak-proof bags and space for coolant, so the pack works as a system. We will spec the combination against your journey time and the courier you use.
Is the board food-safe and traceable?
Our board is bought for use as food outer packaging and is stored in BRCGS Storage & Distribution certificated premises, graded AA+, so batch traceability and certification paperwork are ready for your own audit file. FSC certified board is available under licence C214479 where you want a chain-of-custody claim on the box.
What size are your turkey boxes?
Turkey and Christmas poultry boxes are made to the bird weight you actually sell, which is why we cut them to order rather than listing a fixed range. Tell us the heaviest bird you pack and whether it goes out with a liner or a bag, and we will make a sample before the seasonal run.
Can you hold seasonal stock for us?
Yes. Christmas and barbecue peaks are exactly what our stock holding is for. We price an annual quantity, hold it at our own site and release it weekly, stepping up automatically through the peak so you are not paying emergency freight in December.
What is the minimum order for butcher boxes?
Bespoke sizes are cut on our own machines, so runs are practical from modest quantities upward, and we will quote a one-off sample before you commit. Call 01462 680888 with the size and quantity you are thinking about and we will tell you honestly whether a bespoke box or a stock size is better value.
