Food and meat outer packaging
Outer boxes, trays and transit packs for chilled, frozen and ambient food, supplied from BRCGS Storage and Distribution certificated storage with the traceability an audit expects.
The problem
What usually goes wrong
Food and meat outers have to do two jobs at once: survive a cold, damp, high-humidity chain, and satisfy an auditor who wants to know exactly where the board came from and how it was stored.
Standard board softens in a chill store. Boxes lose stacking strength, pallets slump, and what looked fine at despatch is a rejected delivery at the depot.
Buyers also carry the compliance burden. If your packaging supplier cannot evidence certified storage and chain of custody, that gap lands on your audit, not theirs.
Typical pack
Packaging components we usually specify
- Corrugated outer boxes for chilled, frozen and ambient despatch
- Die-cut trays and cap-and-tray formats for retail-ready presentation
- Stacking-strength boxes designed for multi-layer pallet loads
- Printed outers with product, batch and handling information
- Pallet stretch film, strapping and corner protection for the finished load
- Polythene bags, layflat tubing and liners where an inner barrier is needed
Materials
Relevant materials and board grades
- B and C flute single wall for lighter ambient outers
- BC double wall where pallet height and chill conditions demand stacking strength
- Moisture-resistant and heavyweight liners for chilled and frozen environments
- White top liners where the outer is part of the retail presentation
- FSC certified board under licence C214479 for chain-of-custody claims

Real example
Holding stock through a seasonal peak
A meat processor was running out of outer boxes during peak weeks and paying premium rates for emergency deliveries, while the rest of the year they had pallets of board occupying chilled-adjacent racking they needed for product.
We moved to an annual quantity, priced at volume, held in our BRCGS Storage and Distribution certificated storage, with a weekly call-off that steps up automatically through the peak.
They freed racking, dropped the unit price, and stopped paying for emergency freight. The certification paperwork now sits in their audit file rather than being chased each year.
